Yesterday was my birthday and to celebrate we had one of my favorite dinners, Oven Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes. I was wonderful but this morning I had to spend over an hour cleaning up the kitchen before I could take care of my mead that needed attention. The Mixed Berry Melomel was done with the primary fermentation and needed to be racked and the Mesquite Mead needed to be moved to clarification. I had pulled the mixed berries out of the freezer on Friday to thaw in the refrigerator so I heated them up in the microwave the get the juices flowing.
As you can see from the picture, it came out very nice although not as dark as the Cherry or Blackberry Melomel’s were. I’m confident that it will become a deeper and richer color over the next thirty day that it will sit and finish up in the secondary. I didn’t take any pictures of the Mesquite Mead as there really wasn’t much to look at after the racking. The Banana Bread next to the jug was because we had a couple bananas that were turning dark and needed taking care of. Too bad the mead wasn’t actually ready to drink as I think it would have complimented the flavors of the bread very nicely.
