Remove Hardware on door

Spent the evening removing the hardware on the door and sanding the finish where the glue will be applied when I cover it. I’m not happy with the wood screws I used to hold the hinge on the door and will likely be replacing them. It’s important when I sand the finish that I don’t go through the finish and into the wood underneath. I just need to rough up the surface enough so that the glue will have something the grip onto when I attach the material. I’m not sure what the MEK would do to the wood if it came into direct contact with it and I’m not ready to test it out on the airplane.
