Improvised radio mount

03/29/2013

Fuselage

Put in the radio mount in the cockpit. Worked on several designs and didn't like any of them. I was looking through my supplies and realized that I had the radio charger that I only used when I was recharging my radio. If I could devise a way to mount this in the cockpit, I could use it to hold my radio. I took a scrap piece of 1/8" aluminum sheet and cut a strip 3 1/2" by 5 1/2". From that, I cut a 45-degree angle to the center making an elongated "home plate". Three screw holes were drilled in the "pointy" end and used to mount the plate to the underside of the control panel. Tried the left side first but it blocked the Tach and, if I moved if forward, the radio would hit the cross-member support. Worked on the left side further back because it only blocked the Hobbs meter.
